And just for fun, who can identify the location of this extremely unusual mystery sink?
Hint: This is a sink that half the population living in the Pasadena area might be able to identify.
No, not a hospital. This odd sink, which is activated by knee action, is in the men’s room at Pie ‘N Burger in Pasadena, a retro diner that I was sure the Brain Trust (at least half of it) would recognize. I have no idea if the women’s facilities are similarly equipped.
It has one hole on the top for water as opposed to the usual three holes. It has a porcelain drain as opposed to a removable metal drain so that whatever was washed here did not contain physical matter. It has a deep bowl and awkward foot pedals. All of this indicates that it was manufactured in quantity …standard issue for a particular industry…and I would guess for hospitals…or was it beauticians?

Apparently, an OR sink.

From ‘Sinking of the Titanic’? (You need not dignify that with a response)

Are those foot controls? I pray it isn’t some medical facility in need of a good scrubbing.

Though I’m familiar with the Pasadena area, I don’t recognize that sink. As it is operated by foot pedals I’d expect it to be someplace such as a hospital, but I doubt there’s a specific hospital with which half the population in the area might be familiar. In fact I can’t think of any single place where half the population of the area might have used a particular sink. It would have to be a place that was not only popular, but where where many visitors spent a long enough time that they’d be apt to have need of a toilet. The Huntington’s art gallery or gardens, perhaps? Or maybe the city’s main public library?

Hah. I went to Pie ‘N Burger a couple of times, but I never needed to avail myself of their men’s room. If it had been at Burger Continental on Lake Street I might have recognized it, as I went there upwards of a hundred times.

If I’m ever in Pasadena I’ll be sure to rinse at the Pie ‘N’ Burger with the regulars.
