Noir Fans, Mark Your Calendars

Among the events scheduled for the upcoming Los Angeles Times Festival of Books (April 20-21), you may especially enjoy a panel moderated by Patt Morrison titled “The Real L.A. Noir,” featuring reporters Andrew Blankstein and Richard Winton — and me.

The panel is 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on April 20. Hope to see you there – and bring your questions!

Photo: A headline from the Mirror about the Charles Starkweather case. You would NEVER see a headline like this in The Times. Ever. I used to have this over my desk and the folks shooting “The Soloist” liked it so much that they plastered it all over the newsroom.

  1. Sounds fantastic, Larry! Thanks for the heads up, should be really interesting.

Is it possible to get a video tape of this event for those of us who don’t live in LA to be able to attend. The panel sounds fascinating. Will Patt wear one of her trademark hats?

  3. CalandLulu says:

Are you planning to video tape this event? We would love to see it but we can’t get to LA That easy and we don’t get LA TV. Maybe we can send few questions.

  4. Mary Mallory says:

I’d love to be there, but I’ll be attending the free event and film screening I put together, “Mack Sennett and the Birth of Studio City,” at 3 pm that day at the Studio City Library.
