We’re big on preservation at the Daily Mirror, so I opted for The White Heather, which was considered a lost film for many years. It was recently restored by San Francisco Film Preserve and the San Francisco Silent Film Festival.

For Monday, our mystery guest is taking a nap.
Update: This is Jack (soon to be John) Gilbert.

For Tuesday, we have a mysterious child.
Update: This is Ben Alexander, yes the same Ben Alexander who appeared in Dragnet.

For “Hm Wednesday,” we have two mysterious fellows.
Update: This is Gibson Gowland, left, and Holmes Herbert.
Brain Trust roll call: Mary Mallory (mystery movie and both mysterious guests).

For “Aha Thursday,” we have two mysterious fellows.
Update: This is Jack (John) Gilbert, left, with Ralph Graves.
Brain Trust roll call: Mary Mallory (Wednesday’s mystery guests), Stacia (Wednesday’s mystery man No. 1), Chrisbo (Wednesday’s mysterious man No. 1), Mike Hawks (Wednesday’s mystery gent No. 1), Megan and Thom (Wednesday’s mysterious chap No. 1) and Sheila (Wednesday’s mystery gent No. 1).

For Friday, we have a mysterious couple.
Update: This is Mabel Ballin and Ralph Graves. The fellow in the back remains unidentified.
Brain Trust roll call: Mary Mallory (Thursday’s mystery guests) and Stacia (mystery movie and all mysterious guests).

This feels like NOSFERSTU, but I cannot remember any such scene.

Looks like John Barrymore on a quiet night. Reminds me of THE PHANTOM CARRIAGE 1921

THE WHITE HEATHER. I saw this during Pordenone. John Gilbert Monday and Ben Akexander today. A beautifully shot film with great tints.

Seeing all the male guesses I was surprised because I see a woman, though not Garbo with that hair style.

I don’t see a kid listed in the cast, so I’m sure that’s wrong, but why not.

This is a wild guess but is the bearded guy in Wednesday Gibson Gowland? He reminds me of a slightly shaved-down version of the character he played in GREED.

If the sickly gentleman on Thursday is a young John Gilbert (who looks like Oscar Isaac somehow) then this must be THE WHITE HEATHER (1919), and that’s Ralph Graves with him.
Monday is also Gilbert, maybe. Tuesday would be Ben Alexander, and the other guy Wednesday must be Holmes Herbert, looking much sportier than I’m used to seeing him!
