    Typical Hearst editorial, right down to the frequent ALL CAPS. For all we know, it may have been written by W.R. himself (did it run in his San Francisco and Seattle papers?).

      The Times also thought the evacuation was long overdue. The Times editorial page was not much better, writing in December: “We Shan’t Pretend to Like it.”
