Can hear some machine noises — sounds like an electric hand drill!!!
March 17, 1950: Another day of ringing phones and snoring at the purported HQ of Dr. George “Evil Genius” Hodel.
We have 11 days to go and then I can get back to writing about something interesting. I cannot wait for this to be over, but it’s important to post this material just to show that there’s nothing incriminating about it, despite everything that has been claimed.
The George Hodel files Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8 | Part 9 | Part 10 | Part 11 | Part 12 | Part 13 | Part 14 | Part 15 | Part 16 | Part 17 | Part 18 | Part 19 | Part 20 | Part 21 |Part 22 | Part 23 | Part 24 | Part 25 | Part 26 | Part 27
Hodel says probably they are watching me, talks about selling some of his stuff at an auction — says someone don’t know anything to tell!!!
You you know when and how these wiretaps were removed? Actually, how did they get into his house to set up this whole thing, he was always at home? Sorry if these are idiotic questions, but my knowledge of wiretapping is, well, basically what I’ve seen in movies.

There were actually two sets of bugs. One set of bugs was used to record what was going on in the house, the other was used to tap the phones. The investigators used wire recorders (as seen in “Two Jakes,” among other movies) not tape recorders as is often claimed (and portrayed in “Gangster Squad.”)
The investigators installed the bugs in the house, as I recall, while Dr. Hodel was being interrogated downtown. He clearly knew he was under surveillance, which explains all the background noise from the radio, water running, whispered comments, etc. He also warned people that the telephones were bugged.

Thanks. Funny to think that all their efforts were for naught.
