   I took a tour of the Hollywood Forever cemetery a year or so ago, and I was pleased that the guide was very respectful of the people she described. She managed to tell the Virginia Rappé story without maligning either Rappé or Arbuckle, for example. I’m sure tour guides can’t always have total control, but it seems like the guide’s attitude sets the tone from the beginning.

   So taking a a tasteless photo makes me an asshat but profiting off Elizabeth Short’s death doesn’t make you one? Duly noted.

     1. The guy in the picture is an asshat.
     2. I have yet to realize any sort of profit on Elizabeth Short’s death. Just to make sure, I contribute regularly in her memory to Heading Home, a nonprofit in the Boston area that works with the homeless and victims of domestic violence/abuse.
     3. The guy in the picture is still an asshat.

   I wonder if houses on that street are hard to sell not because buyers are creeped-out by the association, but because who wants death groupies and asshats clogging up your sidewalk?
