Librarian Glen Creason Gives a Research Lesson

Here’s a fun video showing Los Angeles Public Library map expert Glen Creason giving some assistance to a patron. This is particularly useful to dispel the view – held by certain termed-out law ‘n’ order city councilmen – that all librarians do is reshelve books.

    God, I miss the LAPL. I could find anything – ANYTHING – there. Once I saved my landlord the heartbreak of tearing down the house *I* was living in, because the inspectors said it was a modern, non-permit addition to the property and had to go. I found documents and maps showing it had been the original structure on the property in 1928, and had been grandfathered in when they revised the permit laws in the 40s. And as a lovely side note, Harry Lauder’s sister had lived there for many years with her family. It was a lovely little historical outing.
