[Update: This is Martha Sleeper (d. 1983)]
Here’s another mystery photo, courtesy of Steven Bibb!

May 6, 1935: Martha Sleeper, interviewed about filming the Ben Hecht-Charles MacArthur picture “The Scoundrel” in New York, says she prefers working in Los Angeles.

Here’s another picture of our mystery gal. Please congratulate Mary Mallory for identifying her!

And another photo of our mystery lady!

Can this be our mystery lady? Please congratulate Mike Hawks for identifying her!

[This is Martha Sleeper with her husband, actor Hardie Albright. Please congratulate Mike Hawks and Don Danard for identifying them, and Megan for identifying Martha.]
And for Friday, our mystery guest has a mystery companion!

In a couple of those photos she reminds me of Ann Dvorak. Is it Margaret Lindsay?

I suggest it’s Lillian Harvey.

But probably not the Ziegfeld Girl who shows up so, er, fetchingly when one searches for images of Ms. Ames 🙂

Suggestion for Larry: could you add “finally” or the “second time around” to the congratulations when appropriate so that we members of the Legion of the Easily Confused don’t assume the congratulation refers to an earlier, erroneous post? Just askin’

Just came across this article – I’ve been working on a bio on Martha Sleeper for awhile – does anyone have any idea where I can find an 8 X 10 print of that beautiful portrait of Martha (the second one down from the top – the facial portrait with the exposed shoulder)? I have the others already in my archive. Thank you for your assistance….

@Bob: That is a publicity photo of her as a featured player by Clarence Sinclair Bull of MGM, No. B 4438. Good hunting!

Thanks for the lead – that would definitely be a major addition to the archives. If you’d like to know some more about Martha (she led an amazing life) you can see a mini-bio I wrote about her on the website “www.silenthollywood.com”. The emphasis there is on her silent film career (for obvious reasons) but we do get into her other activities. Thanks again…
