[Update: These photos of former Marine Capt. Dale Dye are truly a mystery. They were taken Aug. 19, 1985, during filming of “Invaders From Mars” but never published. However, I did find a feature on Dye from 1985, so keep reading for that… ]

Today I have a pair of photos from the same movie shoot. Keep reading for the second one….

Capt. Dale A. Dye, USMC. One of the two most recognizable Marines in the world, next to SSGT. R. Lee Ermy.
Both of these guys were born in ’44, less than 1000 miles apart- Go figure.

My guess is the photo is from an article about military advisors for studio films and television shows. And that the Ted Turner look-a-like in uniform must be a military advisor who was profiled in said article. He looks like he may have been a marine. As for the movie, was it that Clint Eastwood film about Grenada, Heartbreak Ridge?

Hey, that’s Dale Dye! He was born in Cape Girardeau, and I would be a bad Missourian if I did not know who he was.
That first photo looks like “Platoon,” but the second one must be “Invaders from Mars,” if that farmhouse is any indication.
