Nov. 5, 1960: Paul Coates reports on a little war over press releases on the upcoming John Wayne film “The Alamo” …. Matt Weinstock writes that CBS-TV is having problems with the IBM RAMAC 305 it's using for election night results because Lyndon Johnson is running for Senate and vice president.

DEAR ABBY: I am an "old-timer" who has started to work with young people on a volunteer basis. I was shocked to discover how many of our children can't read or spell. Some of my youngsters are in the eighth grade and their writing is so poor you can't read it. Their imaginations are overdeveloped but when it comes to reading, writing and 'rithmetic, the are lost. What's wrong with our educational system, I wonder?
