April 18, 1960: And now warming up in the Dodger bullpen—the commissioner of baseball?

Ford Frick presented the Dodgers with their championship rings. When he realized he had one ring left and no one to give it to, Frick headed to the bullpen to honor World Series hero Larry Sherry, who was warming up as the night's starting pitcher.

Red Patterson, the Dodgers' publicity chief, pointed out Sherry to the commissioner and "that was all the nudge the commissioner needed," according to The Times' story. "He was off and running, flanked by a phalanx of photogs."
