Little Rock, Ark.

This is the photo of Tri-State Defender reporter L. Alex Wilson, who was beaten by a Little Rock mob, that appeared in The Times. Unlike the Mirror, which ran this picture on Page 1, The Times published a less graphic photo on Page 2:

Internet sources do not agree on when Wilson died. Some say Oct. 11, 1960, while others say he died in 1962. Although Wikipedia has extensive articles on such cultural luminaries as Vanilla Ice and Springfield Police Chief Clancy Wiggum of "The Simpsons," there isn’t a single word about Wilson in what some see as a definitive resource. Perhaps you’d like to read about Milli Vanilli instead.

just saw the 1957 story on your page. Thought you’d like to know that I’ve just completed a 35 min documentary DVD on the life of L. Alex Wilson. It will be used in our local schools here in lake County , Florida, where Wilson was born in 1909.
it’s a dynamite piece! Wilson was an educator here and also ran a local black newspaper before being chased off by the Klan. Some of his former students, now in their 80s, speak fondly of him.
