Black Dahlia Book Club for October 2026

Welcome to the 10th session of the Black Dahlia Book Club!

I finally got tired of talking about George Hodel and Steve Hodel (at this point, I know Steve’s monologues from memory) so I decided to spend some time looking at portrayals of the murder and the investigation. I consider myself first and foremost a historian of the Black Dahlia case, and think it’s important to examine the source material in detail to emphasize the challenges of researching the murder of Elizabeth Short.

Reminder: Don’t Dress Up Like the Black Dahlia for Halloween!

This time, I discussed the 1959 episode of the Deadline TV show, titled The Blue Dahlia. It’s also available on Amazon Prime and the Roku Channel. Note: The “Blue Dahlia” character is named Mary Lawlor.

Next month: Black Dahlia Ask Me Anything, November 3 on YouTube.

I also discussed:
The_San_Francisco_Examiner, February 10, 1947–A highly recommended endorsement of DMDE data recovery software, which allowed me to recover hundreds of files (unrelated to the Black Dahlia — they’re all safe) from a failing hard drive. The software won’t work in all cases, but it definitely worked with some of my older, failing/failed drives.
