I picked Girl With Green Eyes as my backup by going through the trades. I was set with my first choice until I discovered that some super fan had uploaded nearly 100 screen caps to IMDB, ensuring that a Google reverse image search would remove any mysteriousness. And yes it is a British film, and they never do well as mystery movies.
I imagine Bosley Crowther didn’t review it at all, but one never knows.
Wow. He raved about it. And Bosley never raves about anything (The New York Times, Aug. 11, 1964):
In case you have worried about the future of Rita Tushingham, the plain-faced little actress with the big eyes, big mouth and pointed nose who was so good in A Taste of Honey, you may set your mind at ease. She is handsomely capitalizing on her odd and wistful looks in the British film Girl With Green Eyes, which came to the Fine Arts yesterday. What is more, she is giving a performance that could win her an Academy Award and that also redounds to the credit of several others connected with the making of the film.
For Girl With Green Eyes is another of those remarkably fresh and natural films that have come from the Woodfall organization, which is sparked by protean Tony Richardson and which has given us such a dazzling range of pictures as A Taste of Honey, Loneliness of the Long-Distance Runner and Tom Jones. While it is not as ambitious or extensive as any one of those, it is a wonderfully tender, touching and humorous little drama of a lonely Irish girl.

For Monday, which is April Fools’ Day, we have an unusually mysterious couple.

Judging by the location of the steering wheel in today’s image, this is a British film. The guy in the car looks sooo familiar. Hmmm….
