Motor officers still receive a positive pay differential and commute to and from duty on their LAPD motorcycle resulting in significant transportation savings for the officer. These days any patrol officer regardless of sex, race, etc can apply for and attempt to pass Motor School. The 300+ LAPD motor officers now are as diverse as the rest of the force though none look as good on a motorcycle as Mary Mallory. Pictured is a 1947 Harley Davidson O.H.V. “knucklehead” police solo.
