It was written by Michael Vincente Gazzo and Alfred Hayes, based on Gazzo’s play. With music by Bernard Herrmann, photographed by Joe MacDonald and directed by Fred Zinnemann.

This is Albert Dannibal in one of his two screen appearances. He also had the lead in a revival of the play “Stalag 17,” but otherwise I can’t find much about him. He bears some resemblance to Albert D’Annibale.

I would say the “Albert D’Annibale” mentioned by Larry bears more than a passing
resemblance to the “Albert Dannibal” credited in this film.

It’s worth mentioning that playwright Michael V. Gazzo later gained fame as an actor: he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role as Frank Pentangeli in The Godfather Part II, but lost to Robert de Niro.
