Don Danard has been patiently waiting for a mystery Western, so here it is, Don.
This is Behind Bars Guy, whose cousin recently appeared in “Once a Thief.”
Behind Bars Guy in “Once a Thief.”
And for Tuesday, our mystery gal.
The Brain Trust certainly knows its Westerns!
Please congratulate Julie Merholz (mystery movie, cast), Michael Ryerson (Behind Bars Guy/wrong movie), Mary Mallory (Behind Bars Guy), Gary Martin (Behind Bars Guy), Eve (Behind Bars Guy), Herb Nichols (Behind Bars Guy), Jenny M (Behind Bars Guy), Mike Hawks (Behind Bars Guy/wrong movie), DON DANARD (Behind Bars Guy), Suzanne Annette Stone (Behind Bars Guy), McDee (Behind Bars Guy), MandyMarie20 (Behind Bars Guy), Patricia Ann (Behind Bars Guy), Valley Dave (Behind Bars Guy) and Megan (Behind Bars Guy).
And for Wednesday, we have a group of mystery outlaws. Bonus question: Which ones worked together in another, famous Western?
Please congratulate Mary Mallory (mystery movie and cast), Julie Merholz (mystery woman), Jenny M (mystery movie and cast), Patricia Ann (mystery movie and cast), Gary Martin (mystery movie and cast), Benito (mystery woman), Herb Nichols (mystery movie and cast), DON DANARD (mystery woman), Dewey Webb (movie and mystery cast), Michael Ryerson (mystery movie and cast), Bob Hansen (mystery woman) and Lee Ann and Megan (mystery movie and cast).
Gary Martin says: R.R. appeared twice with Z.S. but only once in color: XXXXX. I know they both made westerns but i don’t think of them as “western” stars …in the sense of Gabby Hayes. (I have always been in love with R.R. Thanks!)
And for Thursday, we have a mystery Native American and Back of the Head Guy.
Please congratulate Mary Mallory (members of mystery gang), DON DANARD, (mystery gang members, bonus question), Herb Nichols (mystery gang members, bonus question), Jenny M (mystery gang members, bonus question), Mike Hawks (mystery woman, bonus question), Michael Ryerson (mystery gang members, bonus question), Patrick (mystery movie and cast, bonus question), LC (mystery movie and cast), Mike Botula (mystery woman), Barbara Klein (mystery movie and cast, slightly off on the bonus question), Julie Merholz (mystery gang members), Pat van Hartesveldt (mystery movie and cast), Dennis Gilliam (mystery movie and cast) and Rick Scott (mystery movie, cast and bonus question, plus another possible identification).
Patrick says: Finally get a mystery western and I’m out of town. Just got back today from Old Tucson movie location where hundreds of westerns have been shot since it was built for the 1940 production “Arizona”.
And the man you have been waiting for all week….
Please congratulate Mary Mallory (Thursday’s mystery men), Michael Ryerson (Thursday’s mystery men), Dennis Gilliam (Thursday’s mystery men), Julie Merholz (Thursday’s mystery men), DON DANARD (mystery movie and cast), Chrisbo (Thursday’s Back of the Head Guy), Mike Hawks (Thursday’s mystery men), Barbara Klein (Thursday’s mystery men), mtsu1984 (Monday’s Behind Bars Guy, Wednesday’s bonus mystery question) and Wally Seeley (Thursday’s mystery men).

Well, today, we have Lloyd Bridges, second from left of picture, beside Ian MacDonald, a great heavy. They were both in “High Noon”, but not on the same side.

Well, we’ve got Zachary Scott out front slightly to the right (in the fancy print shirt) and next to him to his right (our left) is Ian MacDonald and slightly behind him is a youthful Lloyd Bridges trying to flex his forearm for visual effect. Of course, Bridges and MacDonald were also in High Noon where Bridges played Gary Cooper’s overly eager deputy (and nascent competitor for Katy Jurado’s affection) and MacDonald played the central antagonist Frank Miller. Interestingly MacDonald here also plays a ‘Miller’ albeit without a given name.

Finally get a mystery western and I’m out of town. Just got back today from Old Tucson movie location where hundreds of westerns have been shot since it was built for the 1940 production “Arizona”. On Monday we have Zachary Scott and Tuesday features Ruth Roman. Wednesday’s outlaws include Lloyd Bridges and Ian MacDonald who appeared together in “High Noon”. The film is “Colt .45” from 1950. It was not filmed at Old Tucson; that would have been too strange.

Late to the party. The film is Colt .45. Zachary Scott, Ruth Roman, Lloyd Bridges and Ian MacDonald (the latter duo also appeared in High Noon. Any extra credit for the the guy far left in the back? Looks like Tom London, who seemingly appeared in every western made from the Thirties to Sixties, sometimes as an extra, sometimes a speaking role in B’s.

Today’s Mystery Man was generally billed as “Chief Thundercloud”. He played Tonto in Republic’s serial “The Lone Ranger”. Apparently his “real” name was Victor Daniels. And that other guy, based on the hat, has to be Randolph Scott. So that makes the movie “Colt .45”.

I’ve seen “Mildred Pierce” too many times not to recognize Zachary Scott. As to the two people who worked together in another western, it has to be Lloyd Bridges and the guy standing in front of him and beside Scott (can’t think of his name but sure he’s one of Ben Miller’s gang) in “High Noon.”

Also, I neglected to add Walter Coy to the list of players in the ‘gang-in-the-street’ pic. He is standing to Zachary Scott’s left (our right). He went on the a featured role in The Searchers (1956) as Aaron Edwards (brother to John Wayne’s Ethan), whose family is killed by the Indian raiding party to start the film and set the narrative in motion.
