   The Central Library is now on the site, southwest corner of 5th & Grand. After about a 10-year search the Normal School was moved in 1914 to new facilities at Vermont & Monroe, where L.A. City College now stands.

   The library is on part of the Normal School’s site, but part of the school building was on what is now the right of way of Fifth Street, as seen in this 1905 photo. Travelers on Fifth Street had to make a little jog to get around the building, as seen in this 1918 aerial view.

   The Los Angeles State Normal School eventually morphed into being UCLA.

   Early 1950s TV ads would often tell you to “send a penny postcard” for more info. or to enter a contest.
