Cafe Bristol Revisited

Hellman Building Staircase

If you’ll recall from yesterday’s post on the Cafe Bristol, the main entrances were two marble staircases off 4th Street. The door on 4th Street was locked, alas, but I was able to get these shots of the two staircases.

The one on the left led to the “general or ladies cafe.”

Hellman Building Right Staircase

And the staircase on the right led to the men’s grill.

Does anybody know what’s down there these days?

  1. Cal and Lulu says:

Put on a Reporter’s Fedora, replete with the white ticket in the hat band sticking out. Find out who the building “Super” is and fake it! If what is behind the doors is illicit, they won’t let let anybody in.
Thanks for the photo. We were discussing your original post this morning. Inquiring minds need to know. Good Luck
