And for Monday, three mystery gents.

Here are a couple more mystery chaps for Tuesday.
Our middle gent in Monday’s picture has been identified by Michael Ryerson, Julie Merholz, Lee Ann, Floyd Thursby, Jenny M. and Dan Dixon. Dan did a great deal of fascinating detective work that’s too good not to share:
The man in the center is, without doubt, the great XXXXXX. Now, just my opinion: the car and the heavies on either side put it in Europe. The crappy color makes it not a high budget affair. I think it’s around the time of XXX’s tiny and wonderful performance in “XXXXX.” The ties tell us something, I’m just not sure what, maybe early-midish 70s. My stab at it is: XXXX on the left, XXXX in “XXXX.” The guy on the right doesn’t quite fit, but…
Alas, the wrong film. But fascinating work!

And here we have a mystery (totally not) car.
Please congratulate Jenny M and Megan and Lee Ann for identifying our mystery movie and cast and Floyd Thursby and Julie Merholz for identifying Tuesday’s mystery gent.

And for Thursday, a mystery woman.
Gary Martin says of Tuesday’s mystery fellow: “Tuesday’s gent in the odd lapels is XXXXX. As he made 5000 films I suspect I shant get far in my research within the remaining days.” Of course Gary then got the mystery film and cast. Congrats!
Julie Merholz and Mike Hawks have also identified our mystery film and cast.
Julie and Jenny M. have identified the car. You probably can’t tell from that shot, but it’s a right-hand drive (very rare, I would say). Notice how much oil it’s burning.
And Julie identified our ultra-mysterious “back of the head guy.”
Don Danard identified Monday’s and Tuesday’s mystery folks.
Congrats, everybody!

This isn’t a mystery fellow. I just think it’s bizarre for him to have an antique rifle with a scope.

Oh look, it’s a Luger!
Our mystery film and cast have been identified by ValleDave and Don Danard.
Stevo identified our mystery car. ValleDave added a bit of trivia about the car from imdb, which is probably not entirely correct.
Mike Hawks and Jenny M. identified Thursday’s mystery folks, while Julie Merholz identified our mystery woman, but had the wrong “back of the head guy.”
Benito gets partial credit for:
Thursday’s girl sure looks like the late XXXXX, ZZZZ’s sister. If so, the tall blonde gent is Michael Caine (alas, no) and the movie is The Billion Dollar Brain (alas, no).
Gent in the middle appears to be Cyril Cusack.

OK, Larry. I give up. Where do I find the names of the “mystery people” on this ongoing feature of your web site. You used to run these every week and by Friday would identify the “mystery people” in your daily column. But I’m stumped. To me the biggest mystery is the identities of your “mystery people.” I promise to wear my newsboy cap 24 hours a day for a month, if you let me in on the secret.

Mike: The mystery photos have undergone a transformation now that this is a personal blog and I’m no longer able to use photos from The Times library. For a while, Steven Bibb generously shared scans from his huge collection of stills, but he took a major hit in Hurricane Sandy and had to focus his energies elsewhere. That leaves me with screen captures from mystery films, which is what I’m doing now.
The way this works is that I post incorrect guesses on the same day. If people are correct, I give them credit on the blog the next day, but don’t post their answers until the end of the week so everyone has a chance.
On Saturdays, I post all the correct answers and it seems redundant to have me post the names of the mystery film and cast when the commenters have done it.

I don’t know why I didn’t recognize Monday’s chap as Cyril Cussack …and if so the film is The Liquidator, 1965, in Metrocolor.

By the way, would the film be “Where the Spies Are”, a David Niven starrer?
I think that’s it.

Monday: the man in the middle is: Cyril Cusack, Tuesday: John Le Mesurier, Thursday is the beautiful Francoise Dorleac (sister of Catherine Deneuve), who is probably talking to David Niven. The movie is “Where the Spies Are.”

I finally got it, but only after Friday’s Gimme. Monday: Cyril Cusack in the middle; Tuesday: John Le Musurier; Thursday’s Lady, Francoise Dorleac, and finally Friday’s Gimme, the always dapper David Niven. The film is one of the many movies spawned in the wake of James Bond, “Where the Spies Are” (1965).
