C.C. Pierce – Glass Lantern Slide

cc_pierce_chinese

This is a first. A vendor on EBay has listed a glass slide bearing the name of C.C. Pierce. Pierce was a prolific photographer who ran a large archive in Los Angeles in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. I have seen many prints, but never a glass slide. It’s possible that Pierce merely sold the slide because he was a dealer in photos, but that is only speculation.

Bidding on this item starts at $99.

Larry The Braun Research Library at the Autry National Center has a large collection of CC Pierce glass lantern slides, many of which are hand colored. Pierce donated some of the collection as well as George Wharton James. We are in the process of digitizing our entire lantern slide collection and it will eventually be available on the Autry’s Collections Online web page.
