This is a particularly tragic story. Edna Waldron was an aspiring actress who was fatally burned in 1940 while trying to save a young girl whose clothing had caught on fire.

Aug. 25, 1940: The Times publishes the obituary of Edna Waldron. Catherine Bowman, the girl whose clothes caught on fire, also died of burns.
