   That’s “Sweet” Dick Whittington who did morning drive time at radio station KGIL in the “Sin Fernando Valley” in the 70’s.

   That’s Sweet Dick Whittington, one of the wittiest men ever to grace the Los Angeles airwaves. He was on KGIL for years, also had a lengthy stay at KFI.

    Gary Owens. BTW: The hand cup to one ear was an old announcer’s trick to get an approximation of how one sounds to others. It was something announcers did in the twenties and thirties before the wide use of earphones. Way back then, NBC insisted that their staff network announcers wear tuxedos to add dignity. Although no one would see them, it was believed the soup and fish would add gravitas. No one could do fake gravitas better than Owens.
