June 9, 1941, North American Strike

June 9, 1941: The North American Aviation strike in Los Angeles (many stories mistakenly say the plant was in Inglewood) comes at a pivotal time for the city. A few days earlier, Police Chief Arthur C. Hohmann. generally considered the “reform” chief of the recall movement, traded jobs with Deputy Chief Clemence “C.B.” Horrall, who headed the LAPD during World War II. The story is far too complicated for today’s post.  Stay tuned.

“Claudette Colbert is nursing a dislocated shoulder resulting from an off-balance golf swing,” Jimmie Fidler says.

An air plant in Los Angeles? No wonder smog wasn’t very bad back then. Perhaps they should start up that plant again.
