Hedda Hopper, March 9, 1944

March 9, 1944: Hedda Hopper tells Betty Bacall to forget this Lauren stuff. “ ‘Betty Bacall’ is euphonious and easy to say,” Hopper says. Gosh did she ever get anything right?

"If Howard Hughes would add a couple of scenes with horses talking in 'The Outlaw' it could be one of the funniest comedies of the year." I think she’s kidding. At least I hope so.

“Betty Bucall?” Hats Hopper has really put her foot in it this time. And the actress’ real name, as I seem to recall, is/was Betty Jane Persky. I won’t be surprised at anything from now on, even maybe hearing Sandra Bullock would win an Oscar. That’s about as absurd a notion as I can think of.
