The Times also ran a story in 1924 about his 50th wedding anniversary and noted that he had been a bugler for Gen. Philip Sheridan in the Civil War. This was my Great Grandfather- father to my grandmother Dorothy Saunders Miller who lived in North Hollywood, CA. After Col service to the Indian Wars with the 5th Calvary-he made his home in Dubuque, IA. He led a very interesting life having excaped from Germany when he was 9 and ended up in America a few years later. He was even Mayor of Dubuque, IA for 2 years and has a street named after him.

Charles John Wellington Saunders was my great grandfather. I have heard many stories over the years about his travels and my father had his uniform, saddle, trunk and many other items that he passed down. It was interesting to see this article!
