Raymond bombing

Jerry's Joynt

Dist. Atty. Buron Fitts calls for a grand jury investigation … An update in the Paul Wright murder trial (by the way, the house in Glendale where the killings occurred was still standing as of a few years ago). Anyone interested in famous defense attorney Jerry Giesler should take note …  Bookies operating openly at Santa Anita? … And I can’t resist posting an ad for Jerry’s Joynt in Chinatown …

Hey Larry: Your mention of Jerry Giesler brought back memories of some of the stories I’ve heard about his mentor, the famous lawyer Earl Rogers, who defended the McNamara brothers when they stood trial for the bombing of the L.A. Times building back in the early 20th century.
[Giesler] Earl must have been an apt pupil as he defended most of the Hollywood crowd whenever they got into trouble in the ’40s and ’50s. That was the era that I grew up in and my family always read the Mirror every afternoon. Especially Matt Weinstock and Paul V. Coates.
BTW, did you know that Rogers’ daughter, Adela Rogers St. John was one of the first ‘sob sisters’ that Hearst ever hired?
–Rogers actually defended Darrow, who was charged with jury tampering in the McNamara case.
–Adela Rogers St. Johns wrote a biography of her father that I have somewhere in my collection of books.
    –Thanks for reading!
    –Cheers, Larry
