Writing in The New York Times (June 16, 1973), A.H. Weiler said:

As the obviously sexy, black heroine of several recent black-oriented, gory and, naturally, sexy shoot-em-ups, Pam Grier again is tougher than the opposition as the titular Coffy, which crashed into the Penthouse and 86th Street Twin I Theaters yesterday. And, if it can be called a switch, she plays a nurse who operates on bad scenes, bad guys and dolls, with explicit dialogue, but almost never in an operating room. Despite a good deal of lip service against the evils of drugs and the like, there’s a maximum of footage devoted to exposing Miss Grier. She is plagued by problems. Her kid sister is hooked on drugs, so she uses a shotgun to dispatch a pusher…. She kills them all off, including her two-timing lover. All of which leaves a viewer with the happy thought that she now can get back to nursing and away from films like Coffy.

This is COFFY (1973)! I recognized Pam Grier’s eyes but didn’t remember this scene at first, I knew she was a nurse in COFFY but forgot about her working in an operating room. I think the surgeon is Jeff Burton.

Mon – The medical team: Sid Haig (I think) and Pam Grier (Coffy doing her day job of surgical nurse)
Tues – Carole Larson (Locatell). That wall art on screen right is a ‘blacklight’ poster titled “Lovely’ – so seventies.
    Wed – William Elliott, Dionne Warwick’s ex-husband

Ms Grier (Rosie Grier’s cousin) is THE reason to see this movie. Her performance is amazing.

Adjustment #2 – just read an interview with Ms Grier and she says that as far as she and Rosey know, they are NOT cousins. They just have the same last name.
