Black Dahlia: Ask Me Anything, February 2026

In the February 2026 Ask Me Anything on the Black Dahlia case, I gave an update on my work in progress, Heaven Is Here!

I discussed — yet again — the absurdity of trying to link the Black Dahlia and Zodiac cases. Here’s a link to Elon Green’s January 23, 2026, article in Defector.

I went over Michael Connelly’s latest claims in Episode 6 of “Killer in the Code” that he posted the grades of Marvin Margolis, who knew Elizabeth Short, when they are the transcripts of Marvin Henry Margolies.

Marvin Margolis from the Black Dahlia case was born March 25, 1925, died July 22, 1993, and was issued SSN 357-16-5765 in Illinois between 1936 and 1950.

Marvin Henry Margolies, with the USC transcript, was born September 16, 1926, died March 28, 2006, and was issued SSN 568-20-3897 in California between 1936 and 1950. He is listed among the graduates from the School of Pharmacy in the 1949 commencement program.

The class listings for “M. Med.” on Margolies’ transcripts are pharmacy classes rather than medical school classes. “M. Med.” is an abbreviation for the Latin term “Materia Medica” and the classes covered Toxicology, Pharmacology and “Posology,” according to USC’s college catalog for 1947-48.

Alex Baber says he got the transcripts from Margolis’ son, but I’m not convinced that Mr. Baber is a truthful individual.

I also delved into Alex Baber’s claim: “Director Baber’s uncle was convicted of multiple murders before Alex was born, so he grew up with a keen sense of good guys vs bad guys.” The incident involved Alex Baber’s Uncle Jeremiah Eady, who used a shotgun to kill two people during a family argument: Jeremiah’s sister Vivian and her boyfriend, who lived across the street from a sheriff’s detective who witnessed the homicides.

Further research on Newspapers com revealed Alex Baber’s large body of clippings, showing that his research on Marvin Margolis dates to May 2021, long before the public release of Large Language Models or “AI,” contradicting claims that he used AI to focus on Margolis.

Clippings gathered by his wife, J-Lynn Baber, show that she was researching Marvin Margolis as early as December 2022.

The body of the Babers’ clippings shows a bit of research on Black Dahlia suspect Mark Hansen, but very little on Elizabeth Short’s “favorite boyfriend” “Maurice the Voice Teacher” and nothing on suspect Carl Balsiger. It seems that the Babers focused on Margolis from the beginning of their research.

I also answered discussed:

–Marvin Margolis’ manipulated image to add glasses.

–Was Elizabeth Short’s body moved by the responding police officers?

–The “promise” telegram.

–Questions about reports of cars at the crime scene.

–What does Steve Hodel say about the Marvin Margolis claims?

–Was the murder of Elizabeth Short a serial killing?

–Did Elizabeth Short approach Policewoman Myrl McBride in the days before the murder?

–Wain Sutton’s story to Phoebe Short.

–Was Buddy LaGore of the Four-Star Grill questioned?

–Are there any color photographs of Elizabeth Short?

–Do any of Elizabeth Short’s possessions still exist?

–Will the LAPD ever open its Black Dahlia files?
