In going through my old files, I discovered several copies of a feature that appeared in the Los Angeles Examiner titled “Rediscovering Los Angeles.” These pieces were written by W.W. Kane, apparently based on interviews with early residents. This should not be confused with a series by the same title that appeared in The Times in 1935, written by Timothy Turner and illustrated by Charles Owens.

Unfortunately, I only have two installments and the series is only available on the original microfilm, but “Rediscovering Los Angeles” was apparently quite lengthy. This Nov. 13, 1924, piece was the 60th story in the series and deals with the introduction of pennies in Los Angeles.
San Behrendt photo collection, which is credited with the image, consists of about 1,500 prints and is housed at the Seaver Center for Western History Research at the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum.
