Mary Mallory / Hollywood Heights: Warner Bros. Celebrates Batman Day

Batman Day at Warner Bros.
First appearing in 1939’s Detective Comics #27 on March 30, 1939, Batman has grown into a Super Hero and an iconic emblem of justice employing just his intellect, athletic skill, and technological savvy and superiority. To celebrate the 85th Anniversary of his creation, Warner Bros. Discovery and its famous Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood honored the character Saturday, September 21, the 10th annual Batman Day.

The Studio pulled out all the stops for an over-the-top, larger-than-life celebration for the Caped Crusader on the anniversary, hosting an after-hours Batman tour of the famed studio lot, displaying shooting locations for the franchise films, followed by an outdoor, backlot screening of Tim Burton’s 1989 “Batman” starring Michael Keaton as the famed Super Hero, Jack Nicholson as The Joker, and Kim Basinger as Vicki Vale.

The special one hour guided twilight tour featured locations from most of the Warner Bros. franchise films. Such sights as the jungle lot, side streets, store fronts, and the iconic courthouse steps from the original TV series, which showed Batman (Adam West) and ward Robin (Bert Ward) running up the steps to meet Commissioner Gordon (Neil Hamilton), recycled and employed in every show, highlighted series’ memorable moments.

Before the tour, guests enjoyed viewing original props and costumes on special display for the unique day. Original Batman costumes from each of the individual motion pictures and some of the cowls were prominently featured. Highlighting the special items wowing guests, iconic and muscular Batmobiles appeared ready for action to save the day.

Concluding the evening, an illuminated Bat-Signal displaying the iconic image of a bat filled the sky, calling Batman to save Gotham City and the world from impending doom and gloom. The vivid signal also reminds fans that special Batman programming and merchandise will appear over the next several months. “Batman” films are streaming on Max as is the new series “The Joker,” which dropped on September 19. Books, movies, consumer products, and games will be released, as well as a special tie-up with Mattel.

Batman came out of the shadows September 21 to be honored and celebrated, moving beyond a simple character introduced in a comic book into one of the world’s most iconic representations of a powerful crimefighter defending metropolises from detestable villains and evildoers.
