Movieland Mystery Photo (Updated + + + +)

Vamp kissing a bedraggled young man.

I picked a mystery movie for this week, but upon previewing the film I decided that the print wasn’t good enough to use, and that there were other issues that sent it back to the vault. While I’m picking a mystery movie, here’s a mysterious couple.

Update: This week turned out a bit strange. I thought I would be able to pick another mystery movie, but life (as they say) got in the way.

This is Jack Mulhall and Jane Winton in The Poor Nut.Mysterious blond with fur wrap covers face.
Monday’s mystery photo was so much fun I decided to do another one! Here’s our mysterious woman for “Tricky Tuesday.”

Update: This is Beverly Aadland.

Brain Trust roll call for Monday:  Mary Mallory (mystery movie and mysterious actor), Mike Hawks (mystery movie and mysterious couple) and Harried Costumer — after a long absence (mystery movie and mysterious couple).

Man in suit vs. man in polo shirt and sport coat. Two men watch with some alarm.
For “Hm Wednesday,” we have various mysterious guests in which someone does not approve of such goings-on.

Update: This is Moises Vivanco, left, husband of Yma Sumac, calling Fred Otash, right, “a big fat liar.” The men in the background are Otash operatives Bill Lowe, left, and Norman Placey.

Brain Trust roll call: Mary Mallory (Monday’s mysterious vamp), Jenny M. (Tuesday’s mysterious vamp) Anne Papineau (Tuesday’s mysterious vamp), Howard Mandelbaum (Monday’s mysterious movie and mystery couple) and Mike Hawks (Tuesday’s mystery vamp).

1920s woman with companion attacked by paint brush
For “Tricky Thursday,” we have a mysterious woman and her extremely mysterious companion.

Update: This is Elise Bartlett, briefly married to Joseph Schildkraut, a.k.a. “man attacked by paint brush.”

Brain Trust roll call: Richard Wegescheide (Tuesday’s mystery woman and Wednesday’s mysterious ex-cop).

And for Friday, we have this mysterious guest.

Update: This is Julian Eltinge.

  6. This was driving me crazy, so I finally cheated and ran it through Google Images, which didn’t immediately find the answer, but did lead me to it (or at least I think so).

Film: The Poor Nut, 1927. The man is Jack Mulhall. It’s a little hard to tell whether the person under the hat is Jane Winton or pre-blond Jean Arthur, but I’m going with Winton, as the kiss curls seem more like her style.

It’s interesting to see how half of this photo was used as the basis for this poster: https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BMzM5ZGE3MTAtOGE0OS00OWJiLWI0ODMtNGE2NjBjNDdmZDZjXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyMjUxODE0MDY@._V1_.jpg
