A group of slides taken by a Southern California artist has been listed on EBay. Most of the other slides are billboards that the artist apparently did. But this one of the Cafe Frankenstein Coffee House in Laguna Beach c. 1958 is sort of special, don’t you think? Bidding starts at $49.99.
This artist was obviously a real gone cat, judging by the artwork photographed inside Cafe Frankenstein. Bidding on this slide starts at $24.99.
And here’s a bit on Burt Shonberg, who owned the Cafe Frankenstein.
Oh, lord, it was probably full of damn beatniks, snapping their fingers and playing bongos and saying “coo-coo” and the like.
I have a very low tolerance for beatniks.

I’d like to hear more about the history of Cafe Frankenstein and Burt Shonberg.
