[Update 2: Here’s our mystery stalker!] [Update: This is Francis X. Bushman Jr. and Alma Rayford in “Away in the Lead.” Evidently this is a lost film because there was almost no information on imdb about it. I updated the record as much as I was able, based on very slim clips in The Times. The mystery stalker could be Charles Clary, Gino Corrado or Billy Franey. ] Today, we have a very tall mystery guest, a petite mystery companion, a mystery stalker and a mystery fountain! Our friend Eve asks for a close-up. Here you go! |
Here’s another photo of our mystery fellow. Please congratulate Mary Mallory, Eve, Mike Hawks and Gregory Moore for identifying him!

[Update 2: This is Francis X. Bushman Jr. and his daughter Barbara in a 1938 photo during filming of MGM’s “Benefits Forgot,” which was released as “Of Human Hearts.” ] [Update: Please congratulate Mary Mallory, Mike Hawks and Gregory Moore for identifying Thursday’s mystery companion!] Today our mystery guest has another mystery companion!
[Update: Francis X. Bushman, Jayne Mansfield and Lee Maxfield, commander of Hollywood American Legion Post 43, which was celebrating the 50th anniversary of the motion picture industry, Nov. 19, 1957.] I ran out of photos of our mystery fellow! But here’s a mystery relative! With some mystery companions. |

Hmmmm. He looks like Francis X. Bushman, Jr., and she looks like Mary Pickford–but they never made a movie together, so at least one of those is wrong. Unless that’s a candid of Francis X. Bushman, Jr., and Mary Pickford having an affair, and Doug’s spy is in the background taking notes.

The man is Ralph Bushman, a.k.a. Francis X. Bushman, Jr. If this is a candid photo rather than a scene the lady may be his wife Beatrice Dante.

Something about the mystery stalker’s “tilt” reminds me of Charley Chase.

I think that might be Ralph Bushman (aka Francis X. Bushman Jr.). Dunno about the dame, so I’ll take a wild guess and say Mary Brian. As for the stalker….hmmm…I’ll say it’s Mary Miles Minter’s mother, in male drag.

Hip shooting: Neil Hamilton and Gloria Swanson on location at Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills. It was once the home of the AFI. What fun to have the run of the grounds when working on a project for the Institute.

Wonder if that might be Barbara Bushman Morgan, Ralph’s daughter, who is now 85 and married to actor Harry Morgan? (They were in the news in 1996 when Harry was arrested for smacking her).

From Thursday is it Barbara Bushman (later Barbara Bushman Quine, future wife of actor Harry Morgan) and Ralph Bushman?
For Friday it looks like Francis X. Bushman on the left and Jayne Mansfield in the center. I can’t place the gentleman on the right.

Is the mystery star Ralph Everly Bushman? The little girl is perhaps his daughter Barbara and the final picture is his father Francis X. Bushman and Jayne Mansfield.

I believe that is Billy Franey in the first photo, I could better tell if he was larger. Let’s see what Mike says too.
