Maria Schneider, the co-star of “Last Tango in Paris,” has died at the age of 58. Here’s a March 11, 1973, Times feature on the movie for people who are too young to remember what a sensation it was at the time.

    1. Saw Last Tango in 1973 in Copenhagen, with French or English subtitles depending on the language being spoken, plus Danish subtitles for the locals, including my date. Words often obscured 2/3 of the screen so it was very frustrating to watch. I was only 17 but knew Brando was a goner.
    2. Adieu to mercurial, curvaceous Maria. She peaked early, then had a tough life after The Passenger.
