Movieland Mystery Photo [Updated]

[Update: Once again, this is more of a mystery than it seems. According to the caption information, this is a crew from Fox filming “Death Valley” with George O’Brien and Cecilia Parker. That would be fine, except there’s no such title, so the film was evidently renamed.]

Scenic, no?

[Update: O’Brien and Parker made several films together in the 1930s, starting with “The Rainbow Trail” in 1932.  The most I can determine from The Times clips is that O’Brien was filming on location in Death Valley in 1936, but he and Parker don’t appear together in any films from that year. Perhaps it’s “Hollywood Cowboy.” ]

… and our mystery sound guy. Why is the camera pointing away from the mike? Guess there’s no sound in the shot.

If it’s anywhere near L.A., that valley is probably now filled in with housing tracts and taco stands.

This must be before they learned they could add the audio in post? So odd to see these old pix with boom mikes in the field.
