    Pale pink as in Communist, not as in gay. Congressman Dies chaired the predecessor to HUAC, and criticized many stars, including Shirley Temple, then 10 years old, for sending compliments to a Communist owned French newspaper. Tres gauche! See, e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Dies,_Jr
