    Fidler’s reference to Carmen Miranda making ‘Road to Rio’ in 1940 turns out to be a case of a movie changing its title during production. ‘Road to Singapore’, which came out that year, with the ‘Road’ trio of Hope, Crosby and Lamour, spawned the 2nd film in the series, filmed in 1940, but that turns out to have been ‘Road to Zanzibar’, released in ’41, which would have been the wrong continent for Carmen. Curious as to exactly which film Fidler was discussing, i checked IMDb. Turns out ‘Road to Rio’ was not even filmed till 1946, released in ’47, and it doesn’t even have Carmen in it.
    Checking Carmen’s bio on IMDb, the ‘Rio’ flick filmed in 1940 became ‘That Night in Rio’. Her bio there relates she died young, at 46 in 1955, after a movie career diet of uppers and downers, of a heart attack she did not realize she was having during a live episode of a Jimmy Durante tv variety show, covering up her irregular heartbeat, going home with no attention paid to her, only to die later that night in Beverly Hills.
