Daily Mirror mystery guest Jimmy Lydon is scheduled to take part in a panel from 1:45 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the 75th Anniversary Celebration of Republic Pictures. Jane Withers, Jane Kean, Theodore Bikel, Marjorie Lord and Robert Easton are also scheduled to appear on the panel. (And no, Elizabeth Taylor will not be there!) |

Republic Pictures’ 75th Anniversary Celebration party? This is like announcing the Holy Grail will be raffled off on Saturday. When I was a young whippersnapper I ate Republic Pictures’ flickers like candy. None of that Betty Grable 20th Century stuff for this kid in them days — with all that huggin’ and kissin’! And a slate of Grable flickers cost two bits, Republic only a dime. Those were the days, my friend….

Elizabeth Taylor may not be there, but thousands of ghosts will. Herbie Yates may or may not show, but look for Gabby Hayes, Vera Hruba Ralston, Commando Cody Jarrett, and perhaps even a guest ghost appearance by the curmudgeonly master himself, John Ford. Ford might even tow in his protoge, the Ringo Kid.
Even after being called CBS Studio Center, it was always Republic to me.
Wish I could be there — would even accept ghost form, if I could. Pity!
