Feb. 23, 1959: Helen Parrish dies of cancer at 35.

Regular Daily Mirror reader Carmen was supposed to be our guest host this week, but I couldn’t find any photos of her mystery star in our archives! Stay tuned while we try again…..

Just a reminder on how this works: I post the mystery photo on Monday and reveal the answer on Friday … or on Saturday if I have a hard time picking only five pictures; sometimes it's difficult to choose. To keep the mystery photo from getting lost in the other entries, I move it from Monday to Tuesday to Wednesday, etc., adding a photo every day.

I have to approve all comments, so if your guess is posted immediately, that means you're wrong. (And if a wrong guess has already been submitted by someone else, there's no point in submitting it again).

If you're right, you will have to wait until Friday. There's no need to submit your guess five times. Once is enough. The only reward is bragging rights.

Last week’s mystery guest was Marguerite Chapman! The weekend mystery guests were Philip Ober and Hans Conreid!

There’s a new photo on the jump!

Update: Helen Parrish in a publicity photo for "It's a Good Idea" on KNBH, published Feb. 24, 1953.

Here’s our final photo of this week’s mystery woman.  She seems to be one of those people who gets a particularly stiff, frozen-jawed look when posing for the camera, as if the Novocain hasn’t worn off. This is one of several photos in which she has exactly the same wooden expression. Please congratulate Mike Hawks, Mary Mallory and Joan Y. Compagno for identifying her!

Sorry about the temerity of my earlier comment. I did a little research and found that, sadly, she died of cancer at only 34–and that she was married to John Guedel, producer of “People Are Funny” and “You Bet Your Life.” I was able to meet and talk with Mr. Guedel at one point in the mid 1990s and he was a very nice man indeed.
