| Los Angeles Times file photo Update: This is Madge Bellamy as “The Spirit of Christmas” in a photo marked Dec. 30, 1923. Curiously enough, I saw her introduce a showing of “The Iron Horse” at the Autry museum years ago. As I recall, she was teeny and very amusing.
Note: Regular Daily Mirror reader Mary Mallory selected this week’s mystery guest. Tune in tomorrow for the answer and the weekend mini-mystery photo. |

| Los Angeles Times file photo Update: This is Madge Bellamy and Zasu Pitts in “Thunder Mountain” in a photo stamped March 6, 1926.
For Tuesday, our mystery guest has a mystery companion. Please congratulate Mike Hawks, Donna Hill and Eve Golden for identifying her! Update: Almost everybody recognized this still of Madge Bellamy and Bela Lugosi from “White Zombie.” For Wednesday, we have our mystery guest with a (not) mysterious companion. Please congratulate Allison Francis, Cynthia K. and Sarah for identifying our mystery guest and Tuesday’s mystery companion, and congratulations to lots of folks who recognized Tuesday's mystery companion but not our mystery woman. Update: Madge Bellamy and attorney Jake Ehrlich in San Francisco in a photo dated Jan. 20, 1943, after she was accused of trying to shoot A. Stanwood Murphy. Here is Thursday’s photo of our mystery guest and it looks like she’s in a bit trouble. Just about everyone has identified her and her mystery companions. Please congratulate Rick Scott, Richard Heft, Suzy Q, Periwinkle, Cold in PHX, Herb Nichols, Nick Santa Maria, Lee Ann Bailey, Kevin Kusinitz, Mike Hawks, Dewey Webb and Arye Michael Bender. Los Angeles Times file photo Update: Madge Bellamy in a photo stamped Aug. 1, 1946. Our mystery guest paid a visit to Bruno of Hollywood! Please congratulate Steve Stoliar, Randy Skretvedt, Pamela Porter and Kauma for identifying her. Also congratulate Periwinkle and Dewey Webb for identifying Thursday’s mystery companion. Nice work! |

Is it Clara Bow as the Madonna? Nice shot of Frances Farmer.

Guessing Mae Marsh from the (then) modern sequence of ‘Intolerance’.
Incidentally, ‘Intolerance’ was shot on what was later to become ABC Hollywood’s television lot at Prospect & Talmage Streets on the eastern edge of Hollywood.

Looks like Clara Bow as Mary–which is ironic, as Clara was anything but virginal.

Ah, Madge Bellamy! Finally figured it out when you posted the picture of her with Bela Lugosi from “White Zombie.” And she indeed got in trouble in 1943–she shot her millionaire lover when he left her for another woman. She lived to be 90 years old, and seemed to have had a happy life even though she “avoided all my life the romantic stuff.”
