March 7, 1980: Charles Champlin interviews former MGM executive Dore Schary, who talks about the declining role of the producer. 

On the jump, Schary recalls giving advice to Louis B. Mayer about what he should do in retirement.

"My conscience told me we had to do something about the internment of the Japanese in California and we made 'Go for Broke!' never expecting a profit, but it turned out to be a windfall and was a terrific hit in Japan," Dore Schary says about his years at MGM.
