I first saw the Watts Towers on a field trip in elementary school (Santa Monica Boulevard Elementary) in about 1950 or 51. I remember we took sack lunches and a nickle for a carton of milk. Somebody at the towers spoke to us, you know, how tall they were, how long they took to build, stuff like that. I don’t know whether or not it was Simon Rodia himself but I like to think it was.
