Griffith was already on the cusp of becoming Hollywood’s first ‘has-been’. America’s first master filmmaker who pioneered the very syntax of movies, would soon be considered a relic of a quaint era. Very sad story that ends with Griffith dying in obscurity, living alone at the Hollywood Knickerbocker Hotel. Without Griffith, there may never have been a Hollywood.
