December 1, 1938: California prepares to use the gas chamber for executions rather than hanging.

The state’s new gas chamber, 1937, “said to be the most painless method of capital punishment,” The Times says.
San Quentin uses two guards to prepare for the first executions in the state’s gas chamber. California continued hangings, however, for inmates convicted when that method of execution was still in force.

This was a very interesting and disturbing post. The Nazis are eliminating undesirables while at the same time California is preparing to “gas its own people”, to quote the current resident in the White House. Maybe after a regime change in Sacramento some legislative action will stop this barbaric punishment for good and bring California, the most beautiful place on earth, into the 21st century.
