    I had not read your blog for a long time and decided I needed a nostalgia fix after reading the headlines about Haiti and all the other negative news.
    I am so thankful that I grew up in LA when it was fun. When I read the stories in your blog, it is hard to believe that the city had so much to offer and the city was safe.
    However, I did get chased for several miles by some gang members in 1958. We were stopped for a traffic light on LaBrea and,when the light turned green, a car load of hostile gang bangers took off after me. Apparently, I didn’t see my “friend” give them the finger at the stop light. They chased us right into my friend’s driveway and we managed to escape into his house.
    This April, there will be my 50 year reunion from the Class of ’60 from Loyola High School. I hope to make it down there. My “friend” ended up working for LAPD and recently retired from the police force.
    Here is an appropriate segment from your blog today.
    CLASS REUNION
    I shook his hand and
    thought:
    How flattered he must be;
    But his manner was distraught,
    He had forgotten me.
