Seem to remember a short run TV sitcom called ‘That’s My Boy’. It was mid-fifties, and a spin-off of a Jerry Lewis movie. It starred Gil Stratton, Jr. as the weak unathletic son of past prime football hero/blowhard, Eddie Mayhoff. Could relate because I was uninterested in sports myself, then and now.
When I got to L.A. ten or so years later and saw Stratton as a sports anchor, it was a funny revealation.
Gil Stratton is fovever locked in my mind as that soft but decent kid.

“It’s time to call ’em as I see ’em”. Gil Stratton, sports honcho of the Big News on Channel 2. Introduced every night by Jerry Dunphy. I ran across Mr. Stratton in Honolulu in the mid-80’s at the convenience store of the Pacific Trade Center on King and Bishop. Stratton owned a radio station in Maui. I couldn’t resist exclaming: “Gil Stratton…Big News”! He looked at me kind of funny, but I had to do it.
