I worked with Herbie Baker on The Columbia Pictures Fiftieth Anniversary television special. Herb was a giant of a man, quick to temper and even quicker to laugh. His mother was a well-known performer on the vaudeville circuit, Belle Baker. He loved the movies and all of show business. I understand that Herb and Stanley Kramer had a long history of collaboration and years long feuds. Herb was quite the character.

I have Matt’s book, “My LA”, which is a collection of his columns. Interesting descriptions of LA, circa 1947.
