As early as the mid-fifties, many of us kids in school knew that Al Capp’s comics were filled with demeaning stereotypes. Such things were just beginning to stir national awareness.
Seems hard to comprehend today, but the concept of ‘Black is Beautiful’ had to be introduced to white society in order for us to see the obvious. We live in a more beautiful and colorful world now. Thank the gods.
