A copy of the Lymanhouse cookbook “What Actors Eat (When They Eat!)” by Kenneth Harlan and Rex Lease has been listed on EBay as Buy It Now for $79.88. This book, by the L.A.-based publishing house, features recipes by movie stars of the day, and is extremely rare and very desirable among movie history fans. It generally goes for hundreds of dollars when you can find a copy, which is almost never. If you try Mr. Laurel’s ham ring mold, let us know how it is.
Note: As always, a vendor and item should be thoroughly evaluated before submitting a bid.
I’ve heard about this book, and I thought I had mentioned it in my own book, “Laurel & Hardy: The Magic Behind the Movies,” but I failed!

I’m more interested in knowing about any recipe that Mr. Hardy may have contributed. His widow, Lucille, said that he made wonderful waffles and spaghetti sauce. Not that he combined the two, you understand….

I don’t have a copy — I acquired one for a friend who is an avid cookbook collector. I think Mr. Hardy contributed a recipe, but I can’t be certain.

There’s a similar Photoplay book of silent star recipes that a knowledgeable blogger tested, for those who are interested. No Laurel or Hardy, but the entry on costume designer Adrian is particularly cute: https://moviessilently.com/cooking-with-the-silent-stars-photoplays-cook-book/

I doubt these two actors put this book together, but someone else did under their names. Which would also make me suspect anything in here, that it was all done for money, since they weren’t renowned for their acting or their cooking.
